Back in the mid 60s my uncle Bill would take my family and his family on weekend camping trips. All of his equipment was military surplus, so we slept on canvas cots and inside large 4-5 man canvas wall tents. I remember, vividly, two instructions that he emphasized to us about canvas tent use. One was to never stretch the fabric more than necessary during setup because the seams' stitch holes would be stretched out to form small leaking holes. The other rule was to never touch the inside of the fabric, especially if it was raining, because a dripping leak would start at that point. These were things he learned as a Marine in the South Pacific in WWII and he made sure that we followed the rules on every camping trip. Don't know if they were true or not because when Uncle Bill said "Don"t Do" you just didn't. It was a different and better time then.

Thank you for the reassurance, I'm glad to learn it's supposed to leak the first time, as the material acclimates to its strength.
My first use of this tent (4m) was in moderate rain; I've seen a few videos referring to "seasoning" the tent before use, but I wasn't clear on whether it would resist water immediately.
As advised, I'll double plug the a-frame and monitor the vents. I'll also research whether waterproofing spray, seam tape, or beeswax would be best, if needed.

it's water repellant immediately, better after giving it a soak with the hose a couple of times and letting it dry in between. I sprayed it with canvas waterproofing after it dried the 2d time... water just rolls off it now. its been up about 3 weeks on rural property. its been very cold with rain/sleet last few days and im cozy long as i keep the wood stove fed. still no leaks. its ok for 1 person. I''ll set up the 5m when i move here for good. this one is a bit small for full time habitation like a home.
