7:53 couldn't he use the red "1" dice and the white "2" dice to get rid of the black "4" dice? (1*2 + 2 = 4). Manual doesn't say dice have to be of the same color
yes he could but I think he didn't do that because he was thinking of using dice for different things
i have a hard time with the symbology in the game. since the game is real expensive right now i am trying to get the hang of it on boardgamearena.com, but it's tough playing with people i dont know who are already good at it. plus there is a move timer, and all clicks are final.
but my wife and i do love thinky euros, and this one definitely makes you think in a unique way.

I noticed a mistake: @ 14:30 Jen should gain back her two influence (reknown) for placing the two cubes on the event cards.
He rewarded these renown retroactively at 21:19 when he caught the error.
I was curious about the Ladies of Troyes expansion. Thanks for playing with it, Richard, so that I could see what it adds to the game. I am going to pick it up.

One the cards that have a delayed effect...lets say you activate it, so you remove a cube, as in the priest, you remove you a cube from the priest card, then you get to add +3 to a yellow die, do you get to add +3 to 3 dice for the cost of 1 cube?

Just a heads up, Troyes re-print is finally out in Europe! I've been itching to try it ever since watching this Runthrough, and hearing Rahdo repeatedly sing its praises...at last it's available at an affordable price :)

Bought the Troye game based on this review. Also managed to find the Ladies expansion which was difficult to track down. I had a question though. When you purchase a die from an opponent, do you have to spend it straight away? Or can you just add it to your pool? Basically is that purchase action always linked to another action. I can also imagine some players changing their mind about how many dice they put into a particular action. So for example they buy one opponents die at a low cost and then realise that they want to spend more... Just an observation that it is a mechanic which could be missed.
Sorry to just extend this thought.. With the ladies expansion you can create some unusual situations if you have guards outside. So you might want to buy a die from an opponent just to potentially see it bought again by another player because it could trigger another result due to the location of your own guards. I can't imagine it comes up much though...
Gruntz 15mm from Rottenlead Wargames yup, when you buy a die, it must be towards putting in a work group, right then. otherwise, you won't be able to specify the price you want to pay, since the bigger the group it joins, the more you have to pay :)
Ladies of T was finally reprinted after about a year and a few months of saying it was about to be. Can be purchased for $20-30 now.
the expansion is on sale right now at coolstuffinc for 19.99 which is a good price

Does anybody haves a clue on where to buy this game on Europe? Reasonable price, I seen it on amazon.de for 130+, It has been impossible to find so far

Yes, It's a good game, no doubt it would deserve a price like that, but it used to be 40€ top. It's sad, I got in love with this game from your review.
+Juan Negretti Troyes is getting reprinted in 2016 by Pearl Games. No guarantee that they'll reprint the expansion, though.

Go to BGG and put it on your want list. Check the BGG market regularly, you'll find a copy of almost anything, eventually.

We never get to see Jen but you talk about her. Maybe you should do a rules explanation and play against her? I think she might beat you :)
I'm confused about how to deal with the points. At the beginning of the game do you flip them all and draw blind when you earn a Victory point or do you look for the value of one with a 1 on it?

is the base game worthwhile without the expansion?
Yes! I tend to like lighter games, but Troyes is a real gem - full of interesting choices. The base game offers a lot on its own.
Why isn't the money called "francs"?
francs weren't a thing until 1799. this game is set in 1200 :)
@@rahdo That was the reintroduction of the franc. The gold franc was minted in the 1300s and the gold écu in the 1200s, but before that it should be silver deniers.
gotchya. well the game says it's set in 1200, and the ecu was 1266, and the rules do say the money is the denier, so it looks like it's all set correctly :)
